Department of History

The Department of History was introduced in the establishment year of Bir Raghab Moran Government Model College in 2020, comprising of a committed and accessible faculty. The aim of teaching History at the college is to stimulate the student's interest and understanding of the life of people who lived in the past. We teach the students a sense of chronology and through this, they develop a sense of identity and a cultural understanding based on their historical heritage. We teach the students to understand how events in the past have influenced our lives today, while we teach them to investigate these past events and by so doing, to develop the skills of inquiry, analysis, interpretation and problem-solving.
The syllabus of the department covers both Indian and World History from antiquity to the contemporary period. Our faculty specializes in different periods will help the students to understand properly the various themes related to the process of state-building, social formations and caste, religion, literature, art and culture, historiography, regional histories, histories of environment, etc. Besides classroom activities, the department also seeks to encourage the students to prepare for their future endeavours by providing extra classes on general knowledge and current affairs.
It is our great pleasure to share with you all that within this short period, many students of the Department have shown their immense potentials not only in academic performance but also in artistic and creative works, sports and social awareness drives. Despite the infrastructural drawbacks, the department is committed to providing proper knowledge and wisdom for the promotion of quality and equality and to foster values for developing good life in individuals and society.

Departmental activities:

• The Department of History has organized a talk on the 1947 Partition of India:
  Sagas of Continuing Tension between India and Pakistan on April 11, 2022. The talk was delivered by Dr. Padmakshi Kakoti, Assistant Professor, Dept of History, Doomdooma College.
• The Department of History has organized a cleanliness drive within the college campus as a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Campaign on 2022.
• An excursion to Arunachal Pradesh was organized on January 4, 2022, by the Department of History. Teachers from the department assisted the students in visiting the various sites including historical importance and tourist attractions.
• Orientation and counseling classes regarding various competitive examinations are being taken by the teachers on regular intervals within the classes.
• The Department of History has been cooperating to the Add-on course of the college since its inception.
• Teachers of the department also participated in the competitive examination courses that are organized by the nearby colleges.

Besides above mentioned activities the following initiatives are in process

• The Department is planning to publish a printed magazine every year by keeping a theme of Historical importance.
• The Department has a plan of publishing a quality based yearly Departmental Journal.
