Department of English

“Literary Newness” and the innovations of teaching and perceiving keeping in view the post-modern dimensions is something that the department strives to succeed. We believe in transitioning our teaching methodologies from time to time. Since reading, writing and communicating in ‘English’ has posed as a challenge for the students coming from the vernacular medium, the department tries to respond to the queries through student-teacher interactions and doubt clearing sessions which helps in developing their academic concepts. Enhancing the creative intelligence of the students is also something which the department aims to excel. We stress on the nurturing the creative talents of the students by organising several creative competitions and intra-department seminars from time to time.

Department Activities:

• The department has organized a Cleanliness drive under the leadership of Abhilasha Phukan on 23^rd February, 2021 whereby the students actively took part in cleaning the premises of the campus.
• The department celebrated English Language Day on 23^rd April with the students via online mode.
• Anwesha Gogoi, convenor of Documentation Cell of the College has organised an inter-college slogan writing competition on the occasion of International Day against Drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
• Abhilasha Phukan, convenor of curricular cell of the college hs organised an inter-college poetry writing and mobile photography competition on the eve of World Environment Day.
• The faculties from the department were actively involved in editing ‘Jagriti’- the annual newsletter of the college.
• Abhilasha Phukan and Anwesha Gogoi has collectively edited ISBN books on North-east Literature and Contemporary Literature, Language and Culture.
